Lime ‘ Kaffir ‘ Dwarf

Dwarf Kaffir Lime (Citrus hystrix – Dwarf variety) is a slow-growing, compact citrus tree well known for its intensely fragrant leaves and distinctive rough-skinned fruits. The dark green, glossy leaves have a unique double-leaf shape and release a strong citrus aroma when crushed, making them an essential ingredient in Sri Lankan, Thai, and Southeast Asian cuisine.

This dwarf variety typically reaches 1.5–2 m in height and spreads about 1–1.5 m, making it perfect for container growing, home gardens, balconies, and patios. The tree has a dense, bushy growth habit and also works well as a decorative edible plant.

The fruits are small to medium-sized, deep green, with a very bumpy rind. While the juice is quite acidic and less commonly used, the zest and leaves are highly valued for cooking, pickles, herbal drinks, and traditional remedies. The rind is rich in essential oils and is often used in natural skincare and hair-care preparations.

Dwarf kaffir lime prefers full sun to partial sun (at least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily) and well-drained, fertile soil. Regular watering is important, but waterlogging should be avoided. Light pruning helps maintain its compact shape and encourages new leaf growth. It responds well to organic compost and citrus fertilizer.
