Malus ‘Echtermeyer’
Weeping Crab Apple
$155.00
Malus ‘Echtermeyer’, commonly known as the Echtermeyer Weeping Crabapple, is a graceful, small deciduous tree admired for its elegant weeping form and spectacular seasonal colour. In spring, the cascading branches are covered in masses of deep pink to reddish-purple blossoms, creating a stunning floral display that attracts bees and butterflies. As the flowers fade, they are followed by small, glossy red-purple crabapples that persist into winter, adding further ornamental interest.
The foliage emerges reddish-purple in spring, maturing to deep green with bronze tones through summer before turning rich shades of orange and red in autumn. The tree typically grows to around 3–4 metres tall and wide, with a naturally pendulous habit that gives it a soft, elegant appearance.
Echtermeyer Weeping Crabapple thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and it’s tolerant of cold and moderate drought once established. It’s an excellent choice as a feature tree for gardens, courtyards, or lawns, providing year-round beauty through its flowers, foliage, and fruit.
