Hymenosporum flavum
Native Frangipani
$195.00
Hymenosporum flavum is an elegant, fast-growing evergreen tree native to Australia, prized for its fragrant yellow flowers and glossy foliage. Commonly called Golden Cheesewood, it produces clusters of tubular, creamy-yellow flowers in spring, which emit a sweet, citrus-like fragrance that attracts birds and pollinators. The flowers are followed by decorative seed pods that add interest to the garden after flowering.
The foliage consists of glossy, lance-shaped green leaves arranged in a dense canopy, providing light shade and a refined, tropical look. Mature trees can reach 10–15 metres tall, with a straight trunk and rounded canopy, making them suitable as a feature tree, street tree, or for larger garden spaces.
Hymenosporum flavum prefers well-drained soil and grows best in full sun to partial shade. It is relatively hardy once established, tolerating drought and moderate frost. Regular watering and occasional pruning will maintain its shape and promote flowering.
With its fragrant yellow blooms, lush foliage, and graceful form, Hymenosporum flavum brings tropical charm and seasonal interest to parks, streetscapes, and large gardens.
