Blue Hydrangea

Blue hydrangea is a striking ornamental shrub known for its large, rounded flower clusters that range from soft sky blue to deep cobalt. Usually a type of Hydrangea macrophylla, it reaches about 1–2 m in height and width, forming a full, leafy mound of dark-green foliage. The flower color is strongly influenced by soil pH: acidic, aluminum-rich soils create the classic intense blue, while more neutral conditions shift blooms toward purple.

This hydrangea blooms from late spring through summer, providing months of vibrant color for borders, cottage gardens, and shaded patios. It grows best in partial shade with morning sun, in rich, consistently moist but well-drained soil. Mulching helps retain moisture, and pruning after the flowering period encourages healthy growth and future blooms. Blue hydrangeas are also popular as cut flowers and in dried arrangements, adding long-lasting beauty indoors as well as in the garden.
