Banksia repens
Creeping Banksia

$13.00

Banksia repens, commonly known as the Creeping Banksia, is a low-growing, groundcover species of Banksia native to the south coast of Western Australia. It features prostrate, creeping stems that spread across the ground, often forming dense mats. This makes it ideal for stabilizing soil and covering sandy or rocky areas.

The plant produces large, upright, cylindrical flower spikes that range in color from orange to bronze, usually blooming from spring to summer. These striking flower heads emerge above the foliage and are rich in nectar, attracting birds, bees, and other pollinators.

Its leaves are leathery, lobed, and serrated, growing on vertical stems from the horizontal branches. Over time, the stems become woody and gnarled, giving the plant a sculptural appearance.

Banksia repens is valued for its drought tolerance, unique form, and its role in coastal and bushland ecosystems, particularly in fire-prone areas where it regenerates from underground lignotubers. It’s also appreciated in gardens for its ornamental flowers and ground-hugging growth habit.
