Banksia blechnifolia

Banksia blechnifolia is a striking, low-growing native Australian shrub known for its dramatic foliage and unique ground-covering habit. Unlike many upright banksias, this species grows flat along the ground, forming a spreading rosette of bold, deeply serrated leaves.

The large, fern-like leaves emerge bronze to reddish when young, maturing to a leathery dark green with a silvery underside. Its unusual growth form makes it an excellent feature plant in rockeries, native gardens, and coastal landscapes.

In autumn and winter, Banksia blechnifolia produces distinctive cylindrical flower spikes in shades of golden-orange to rusty red. These nectar-rich blooms attract birds, bees, and other pollinators.

It thrives in full sun and requires well-drained sandy or gravelly soil. Highly drought tolerant once established, it is well suited to low-maintenance and water-wise gardens.
