Olea europaea, commonly known as the olive tree, is a long-lived evergreen tree valued for its silvery-green foliage, gnarled trunk, and edible fruit. The leaves are narrow, leathery, and grey-green on top with a silvery underside, giving the tree a distinctive Mediterranean look. Small, creamy-white flowers appear in spring, followed by oval green fruits that ripen to deep purple or black.

Olive trees typically grow 5–10 meters tall and develop a broad, spreading canopy over time. They prefer full sun, well-drained soil, and warm, dry conditions. Once established, olives are highly drought-tolerant and require minimal maintenance. They do not tolerate waterlogged soils and perform best with good air circulation.

Apart from fruit production, Olea europaea is widely grown as an ornamental and landscape tree, suitable for gardens, avenues, and large pots. With proper care, olive trees can live for hundreds of years and remain productive.
