Cercis chinensis ‘Avondale’ is a highly ornamental deciduous tree known for its exceptionally heavy display of vivid rosy-purple flowers in early to mid-spring. The flowers appear directly on the older branches and trunk before the foliage develops, giving the tree a dramatic and colourful appearance.

It has a compact, upright to vase-shaped growth habit, making it an excellent choice where space is limited. As the tree matures, it develops a graceful branching structure that provides attractive winter interest even when leafless.

After flowering, attractive heart-shaped leaves emerge in shades of fresh green. The foliage forms a dense canopy during summer and can provide pleasant seasonal interest. In suitable climates, the leaves may develop yellow to golden autumn colour before falling.
