Osmanthus fragrans
White Osmanthus
$35.00
Osmanthus fragrans, commonly known as white fragrant osmanthus or sweet olive, is a small evergreen shrub or tree valued for its highly fragrant white flowers. It belongs to the Oleaceae (olive family) and is native to parts of China, Japan, and other regions of East Asia.
The plant typically grows 3-4 meters tall, with dense, glossy, dark green leaves that are oval and leathery. In autumn, and sometimes in spring, it produces clusters of tiny white flowers in the leaf axils. Although the flowers are small, they release a strong, sweet fragrance often described as a blend of jasmine, apricot, peach, and ripe fruit.
White fragrant osmanthus grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. It is commonly planted as an ornamental shrub in gardens, parks, and hedges because of its attractive foliage and long-lasting scent. The flowers are also used to make perfumes, teas, desserts, and traditional herbal products in several East Asian countries.
