Olea europaea ‘Kalamata’

Kalamata is a highly regarded olive cultivar known for its large, elongated, dark purple to almost black fruit and attractive evergreen foliage. The olives develop through shades of green, reddish-purple and deep purple as they mature, often appearing in attractive clusters along the branches.

The tree has a gnarled, naturally ornamental trunk and narrow, leathery leaves with a distinctive silvery-green appearance. Its combination of fruit and foliage makes it an excellent choice for both productive gardens and Mediterranean-style landscapes.

Kalamata olives are particularly valued as table olives, with a rich, slightly fruity flavour and firm, meaty texture. They are commonly preserved and served in salads, antipasto, breads, pasta dishes and other Mediterranean cuisine.
