Melia azedarach
White Cedar

Melia azedarach, commonly known as White Cedar, is a fast-growing, attractive deciduous tree valued for its elegant appearance and adaptability. It develops a broad, rounded canopy with finely divided, glossy green leaves that create a light, airy appearance. During spring and early summer, the tree produces clusters of small, fragrant, pale lilac to purple flowers, adding ornamental interest to the landscape.

After flowering, Melia azedarach produces small, round, yellowish to golden berries that can remain on the tree after the leaves fall, providing seasonal colour. White Cedar is commonly planted along streets, in gardens, parks, and larger landscapes where a shade tree is desired. It is generally adaptable to a range of soil conditions and warm climates, making it a useful ornamental and shade tree. The berries are toxic if eaten, so care should be taken around children and pets.
