Lime ‘ Kaffir ‘

Kaffir Lime (Citrus hystrix) is a tropical evergreen citrus tree famous for its intensely fragrant leaves and distinctive rough, bumpy fruits. It is widely grown for culinary, medicinal, and ornamental purposes, especially in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. The tree has a dense, bushy habit with dark green, glossy leaves that have a unique double-lobed shape. When crushed, the leaves release a strong, refreshing citrus aroma.

A mature kaffir lime tree can grow 3–5 m in height when planted in the ground, while remaining smaller in containers with regular pruning. The branches may have short thorns. The white, fragrant flowers appear throughout the year in warm climates and attract bees and other pollinators.

Kaffir lime thrives in full sun, warm temperatures, and well-drained, fertile soil. Regular watering is needed, but the plant does not tolerate waterlogging. It responds well to organic compost, mulching, and citrus fertilizers. Pruning helps maintain shape and encourages fresh leaf growth.
