Eucalyptus pauciflora is a hardy, evergreen tree renowned for its exceptionally beautiful smooth, mottled bark, which naturally sheds in patches to reveal tones of white, cream, grey, green, and soft brown. This constantly changing bark colour makes the tree attractive throughout the year, even when not in flower.

The foliage is blue-green to grey-green, oval when young and becoming more elongated with age. Leaves are aromatic and leathery, releasing a fresh eucalyptus scent when crushed. During summer, the tree produces small, delicate white flowers with prominent stamens, providing a valuable nectar source for bees and other pollinators.

Snow gum typically reaches 10–20 meters in height, though growth rate and size vary depending on climate and soil. It develops an open, spreading canopy and a strong, upright trunk. This species is one of the most cold-tolerant eucalyptus trees, naturally occurring in alpine and high-altitude regions, and can withstand frost, light snow, wind, and temperature fluctuations.

It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, including sandy or rocky soils. Once established, Eucalyptus pauciflora is drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and resistant to many pests and diseases. Young trees respond well to pruning, allowing size control or multi-stem training for ornamental effect.
Snow gum is widely used as a feature tree, in parks, large gardens, modern landscapes, and restoration projects. Its sculptural bark, resilience, and year-round visual interest make it a standout choice for both ornamental and functional planting.
