Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ is a deciduous ornamental tree renowned for its stunning deep burgundy to purple, heart-shaped foliage.

Foliage: Large heart-shaped leaves emerge reddish-purple in spring, turning purplish-black, then purplish-green in summer, with striking yellow-orange autumn colour.

Bark: Dark reddish-brown, aging to rough grey.

Fruit: Pods (50-80 mm) noted overseas, but not seen in

Australia.

Habit: Open, low-branching with a flat-topped canopy; young branches have a zig-zag shape.

Flowers: Abundant small pink, pea-like blooms appear on branches before the leaves in spring.

Size: 5m tall x 5m wide.

It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil.
