Camellia japonica ‘ BrushfIeld’s Yellow ‘

Camellia japonica ‘Brushfield’s Yellow’ is a unique and elegant evergreen shrub prized for its unusual colouring. The blooms are formal double to peony form, featuring creamy white outer petals that surround a softly ruffled centre of pale yellow petaloids. This yellow-toned centre gives the flower a rare and refined appearance, making it a standout in winter and early spring gardens.

Flowering from late winter into early spring, it provides a beautiful display when many other plants are still dormant. The foliage is glossy, dark green, and dense, offering year-round structure and contrast to the light-toned blooms. It has an upright, bushy growth habit and typically reaches around 2–3 metres tall, making it suitable as a feature plant, hedge, or large container specimen.

This camellia prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil and grows best in a partly shaded position protected from strong afternoon sun and winds. Regular watering during dry periods and mulching around the base will help maintain healthy growth and encourage abundant flowering.
