Acer palmatum ‘Senkaki’
Coral Bark Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Senkaki’, also widely known as ‘Sango-kaku’, is one of the most distinctive Japanese maples, famous for its brilliant coral-red bark. It provides a beautiful combination of delicate foliage, elegant branching, and exceptional winter color.

The tree produces fresh green, finely divided leaves during the growing season. As temperatures cool in autumn, the foliage changes to attractive shades of golden yellow, orange, and sometimes reddish tones, creating a spectacular seasonal display.

Its greatest ornamental feature appears after the leaves fall. The young branches and stems become vivid coral-red to salmon-orange, particularly in winter. Against a darker garden background or evergreen plants, the colorful stems stand out beautifully.
