Golden Wattle

Golden wattle is a striking evergreen tree or large shrub, best known for its vivid golden-yellow flowers and glossy green foliage. The leaves (phyllodes) are long, broad, and leathery, giving the plant a bold, upright look. From late winter to early spring, it bursts into dense, fragrant flower clusters that cover the branches and create a spectacular display.

Typically growing 4–8 meters tall, golden wattle has a rounded to spreading habit and is fast-growing under the right conditions. It thrives in full sun, prefers well-drained soils, and is highly drought-tolerant once established. This species is well adapted to dry climates and poor soils, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardens and restoration projects.

Golden wattle is Australia’s national floral emblem and is also valued for nitrogen fixation, improving soil fertility. It attracts pollinators such as bees and birds and can be used as a feature tree, screen, or for revegetation. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and control size.
